Commercial/Industrial Vacancies

Under provincial legislation, commercial and industrial buildings with vacant areas may be eligible for a tax rebate. This rebate program is governed by Section 364 of the Municipal Act and Ontario Regulation 325/01. Rebates will be issued by the municipality to eligible owners who submit a Commercial/Industrial Vacancy Rebate Application. To qualify for a rebate, the vacancy duration must be at least 90 consecutive days.

The deadline to submit an application for any given year is February 28 of the following year.

The amount of the rebate is 10% of the fully occupied taxes in the case of commercial properties and 10% of the fully occupied taxes in the case of industrial properties. Rebate amounts will also depend on the number of days of vacancy and the portion of the assessment of the building not occupied.

Property owners or their authorized representative must return the application completed and signed making sure that the questionnaire is duly filled. When submitted by the owner’s representative a letter of authorization, signed by the owner, must accompany the returned form. Please read all instructions.
