Fort Erie, ON – The Town of Fort Erie, in partnership with the Affordable Housing Advisory Committee (AHAC), hosted its first Attainable Housing Symposium on Wednesday, October 22. The event brought together builders, developers, community partners, and local stakeholders to explore practical solutions to the growing challenges of attainable housing in Fort Erie.
Attendees engaged in open discussions, shared innovative ideas, and raised thoughtful questions about how to improve access to housing options that meet the needs of residents. The symposium also featured guest speakers and a regional case study highlighting successful approaches to attainable housing.
“The strong turnout and meaningful dialogue we saw at this event show how committed our community is to addressing housing needs,” said Edward Terry, Manager of Policy and Community Planning. “This is an important step toward building partnerships and finding creative, sustainable solutions that make Fort Erie a place where everyone can find a home they can afford.”
As the conversation continues, the Town invites residents to a special free film screening of Thinking Beyond the Market, a documentary by Dr. Brian Doucet, Professor of Planning at the University of Waterloo. The screening will take place on Wednesday, November 26, from 5:00–7:30 p.m. at Greater Fort Erie Secondary School (1640 Garrison Rd, Fort Erie, ON L2A 5M4). Dr. Doucet will be in attendance for a Q&A session following the film.
