Albert Street Park Master Plan
Albert Street Park is located in Ward 2, in close proximity to the Old Fort. It is a Neighbourhood Park that serves the Lakeshore Neighbourhood. The park was constructed in the 1970s and contains an informal baseball diamond, a tennis court, a ball hockey court and a small play structure. The Albert Street Park has been identified for improvement and upgrades, so the park will better serve the needs of the community.
The first step in this process is to develop a Park Master Plan that will guide future investment, in consultation with the local park users. The Master Plan will examine a variety of park improvements that will better serve the passive and active recreational needs of the community. The addition of new amenities may include a new playground, multi-use play fields, multi-use play courts, picnic and sitting areas, skate features and a pavilion.
Proposed Park Master Plan
SHIFT Landscape Architecture has taken great care in considering the input received from a variety of park stakeholders and the surrounding community, in developing a final park concept for Council’s consideration. Michael Barker, of SHIFT, will be presenting the Albert Street Park Master Plan concept to Council at its October 15, 2019 meeting. Below are links to the Albert Street Park Master Plan and Report, as well as Staff Report PDS-54-2019, that will be considered by Council.
Anyone wishing to address Council regarding the master plan may register as a delegation for the meeting, by contacting the Clerks Department prior to noon on Friday October 11, 2019.
Preliminary ideas for the Albert Street Park improvements were presented at a Public Open House on Tuesday July 16, 2019 at the Lions Douglas Heights Seniors Centre. Residents were able to review plans, identify features they liked and provide feedback to staff and the project landscape architects. The preliminary concepts from the Open House are available in pdf format below.
