Compliance Audit and Committee
Purpose of the Committee
The purpose of the Compliance Audit Committee is to receive applications from persons who believe there has been a contravention of the Municipal Elections Act, 1996 as it relates to campaign finances.
On September 22, 2014 the Town Council passed by-law 119-2014 appointing seven members of the Compliance Audit Committee for the period December 1, 2014 through November 30, 2018. The Committee Members are;

Applying for a compliance audit
An elector who is entitled to vote in an election and believes on reasonable grounds that a candidate has contravened a provision of Municipal Elections Act, 1996 relating to election campaign finances may apply for a compliance audit of the candidate’s election campaign finances.
An application for a compliance audit shall be made to the clerk of the municipality for which the candidate was nominated for office. The application shall be in writing and set out the reasons for the elector’s belief. To view, please click here
Within 10 days after receiving the application, the clerk shall forward the application to the Compliance Audit Committee and provide a copy of the application to the council.
Within 30 days after receiving the application, the committee shall consider the application and decide whether it should be granted or rejected.
The decision of the committee may be appealed to the Ontario Court of Justice within 15 days after the decision is made and the court may make any decision the committee could have made.
