Spears Park is a new park that will be developed in the Spears Estates subdivision.
The Spears High-Pointe Neighbourhood Plan identifies the need for a neighbourhood park at the corner of Meadowood and Kerby Streets, to serve the local community. Neighbourhood Parks form the foundation of the Town’s park system, providing passive and active recreational opportunities within walking/cycling distance of local residents.
The design and construction of this .18 hectare (.45 acre) Neighbourhood Park was approved by Council through the 2020 budget process. SHIFT Landscape Architecture has been retained to develop a master plan for the park, which will guide future construction. The Park Master Plan will be developed based upon the Town’s Neighbourhood Park standards, site conditions, applicable legislation and in consultation with the community. Although a small park, it could include such amenities as a playground for a variety of age groups, a shade structure, gathering space, open green space, landscaping and shade trees, pathways and seating – depending on the priorities of the community.
Thank you to all who participated in the recent online Spears Park survey, and shared your ideas, priorities and concerns about this future public park. We also recently met with students from Garrison Road Public School, who shared their thoughtful ideas and concepts for the park. SHIFT Landscape Architecture has developed several refined park design options, based on wonderful feedback received from the community.
Public Open House - July 29, 2020
COVID19 precautions continue to restrict the Town from holding an ‘in-person’ public open house to review these refined park designs. However, the Town is using online technology to meet and consult with the community, to continue moving projects forward.
We invite you to participate in a Zoom Public Open House on Wednesday July 29, 2020, between 5:00 and 7:00 pm. Town staff and the project consultant will provide a presentation on the park design options, and will be available to discuss the project and answer any questions.
The Public Open House will be streamed live on YouTube. There are a variety of ways in which you can participate:
- Watch the Public Open House - If you wish to watch the Open House but not actively participate (ask questions, provide comments, express concerns), please view the live stream at https://www.youtube.com/townofforterie, or by clicking on the YouTube icon on the home page of the Town’s website.
- Participate in the Zoom Public Open House - If you wish to participate in the Open House, by asking questions, providing feedback or expressing concerns, you may do so via laptop, mobile device or by telephone. Please register to participate by emailing Mackenzie Ceci, Planning Intern at email@example.com. To those who register in advance, further information will be emailed relative to the process for joining and participating in the Zoom Public Open House. Registered participants will be queued in a virtual waiting room, and brought into the meeting one at a time.
Those who do not register in advance will also have an opportunity to participate, after the registered participants have spoken. - Submit comments in writing – You may send a written submission to Signe Hansen, Manager, Community Planning via email, mail or Town drop off box located at Town Hall. Please provide comments prior to 5:00 pm on Monday, July 27, 2020. Your questions or comments will be addressed at the Public Open House.
A recorded presentation on the Park Master Plan and park design options was available for review online. Michael Barker, of SHIFT Landscape Architecture, reviewed feedback received from the community and Garrison Road Public School, as well as the proposed park design options. This provided an opportunity to become familiar with the information that was to be presented at the Public Open House, and allowed for questions to be prepared in advance.
We invite you to provide further comment, by completing the Spears Park Public Open House Comment Sheet. Completed comment sheets may be returned to Signe Hansen, Manager of Community Planning, by email (firstname.lastname@example.org), mail (1 Municipal Centre Drive, Fort Erie, L2A 2S6) or by dropping in the Town Hall drop box.
