Commercial Growth and Production and Medical Growth of Cannabis - Combined Official Plan, Zoning By-law and Site Plan Control By-law Amendments
Description
The Federal Cannabis Act came into effect in October 2018, legalizing the production, sale and use of cannabis for recreational purposes in Canada. At its Committee meeting of July 12, 2021 Council approved the Cannabis Legislation and Policy Study. The recommendations of this Study are being implemented through updates to the Town’s Official Plan, Zoning By-law and Site Plan Control By-law. The purpose of these Official Plan, Zoning By-law and Site Plan Control By-law amendments is to update the Town’s existing Official Plan polies, Zoning and Site Plan Control regulations to regulate commercial and medical cannabis operations in the Town. These amendments will include updated definitions for both commercial and medical cannabis operations, provisions that the use be permitted indoors only, emit no odour and other various setback and study requirements to further regulate the use.
