FORT ERIE (October 17, 2025) - Following an investigation by the Town of Fort Erie’s By-law Enforcement and Water/Wastewater teams, sixteen (16) Administrative Monetary Penalty System (AMPS) charges have been laid against two Fort Erie residents for tampering with their residential water meter.
The investigation occurred in the Dominion Road area between August 16 and September 27, 2025.
The Town’s By-law No. 66-2016 prohibits anyone from interfering with, obstructing, concealing, or preventing access to any municipal or private fire hydrant, valve, water meter, or related equipment. Offenders face a minimum fine of $400 per count. In this case, the responsible parties face approximately $6,400 in fines.
Residents are encouraged to report any suspicious activity or by-law violations, including the obstruction or bypassing of water meters, to bylawenforcement@forterie.ca. All reports are confidential.
