Town of Fort Erie Advocates for Local Priorities at AMO Conference

FORT ERIE (August 22, 2025) —Mayor Wayne Redekop and Councillor Tom Lewis attended the Association of Municipalities of Ontario (AMO) Conference in Ottawa from August 17 to August 20, 2025. The annual conference provided a valuable opportunity to meet directly with Provincial Ministers and their staff about important issues in the community.

During the conference, Fort Erie officials engaged in productive discussions with:

  • Minister of Health – discussed Fort Erie’s ongoing health-care initiatives and community growth, and promoted re-imagining the Douglas Memorial site.
  • Minister of Citizenship and Multiculturalism – addressed the archaeological assessment process.
  • Minister of Infrastructure – highlighted Fort Erie’s innovative projects and rapid growth.
  • Minister of Tourism, Culture and Gaming – who recently visited Fort Erie and expressed enthusiasm about positioning the Town as a premier tourist destination.
  • Parliamentary Assistant to the Minister of Municipal Affairs and Housing – discussed access to the Building Faster Fund and sought support for Fort Erie’s housing-related funding applications.
  • Parliamentary Assistant to the Minister of Natural Resources – explored opportunities for joint shoreline protection along Lake Erie and emphasized the climate change impacts affecting municipalities.
  • Parliamentary Assistant to the Minister of Economic Development, Job Creation and Trade – participated in a Border Mayors Alliance meeting to update the Ministry on trade and tariff challenges affecting border communities.
