The charges in the Notice of Passing Development Charges (DC) by-law will apply to all new residential and non-residential development. This excludes industrial development. They are also subject to certain terms, conditions and limited exemptions. A key map is not included in this notice. The Development Charges By-law applies to all lands located within the boundaries of the Town of Fort Erie. There are no industrial development charges in this by-law.

Statutory Public Meeting Re: 2023 Development Charges and Background Study
The Town of Fort Erie Council is holding a public meeting on December 11th, 2023 at 6:00 PM to discuss proposed development charge rates as well as the policies that will be applied throughout the Town. The proposed development charges by-law will not be considered by Council at this meeting. The by-law will be considered by Council at a future meeting, after considering comments received as part of the public meeting and the consultation process.
All interested parties are invited to attend the Public Meeting of Council and any person who attends the meeting may make representations relating to the proposed Development Charges by-law and background study.

TAKE NOTICE that on March 4th, 2024, the Council of The Corporation of the Town of Fort Erie passed By-law 20-2024, 21-2024 and 22-2024 under Section 2 of the Development Charges Act, 1997, which imposes Town-wide development charge rates.

What Development Is Subject To Development Charges?
Why Do We Have Development Charges?
Town-wide development charges are levied against new development. This is to pay for the increased capital costs related to the provision of such municipal services as:
- library
- fire
- parks and recreation
- public works and fleet
- administration
- roads and related
- storm water drainage and control
- and wastewater and water services
What Are The Rates And When Do They Take Effect?
The Development Charges chart sets out the rates applicable throughout the Town. Non-urban area development charge rates get reduced proportionately. You can see these rates by reviewing the Development Charge By-law. Both the residential and non-residential Development Charge rates are in effect as of March 18, 2019. They are subject to phase-in amounts effective September 19, 2019 and March 18, 2020.
