Fort Erie Official Plan - Status Update (May 2026)
The Town of Fort Erie’s new Official Plan has been approved by the Province and is now in effect.
On May 19, 2026, the Ministry of Municipal Affairs and Housing approved the Official Plan, with modifications. The Plan came into effect on May 20, 2026 and now serves as the Town’s primary policy document guiding land use, growth, and development to 2051.
The approval includes 54 Province-issued modifications to ensure consistency with provincial policy and legislation.
Current Version of the Official Plan
The Official Plan currently in force is the version approved by the Province.
A copy of the Official Plan as adopted by Council and submitted to the Province is available on the Town’s project page: Official Plan Review and Update
Over the coming weeks, Town staff will be updating the Official Plan document and mapping to incorporate all required Provincial modifications. Once finalized, the consolidated version will be posted here.

About the Official Plan
The Official Plan sets out the Town’s long-term vision for growth and development to the year 2051. It includes policies and mapping to guide:
- Land use and community structure
- Housing and growth management
- Employment and economic development
- Natural heritage and environmental protection
- Infrastructure and servicing
