Tree Permit Application

Tree Permit Application Process:

The destruction, removal or injury of trees on private property may be prohibited under the Town's Tree By-law, unless authorized by a Tree Permit.

  1. Owner Authorization Form (if applying on the owner’s behalf)
  2. An aerial image of the property where the tree(s) are being removed, with a marked "X" to clearly show which tree(s) are being removed (instructions below)
  3. Photograph(s) of the full tree(s) you are applying for

  • An arborist report prepared by a qualified tree professional 
  • A tree protection plan drawn to scale with tree inventory details, if details are not provided elsewhere 
  • Consent letter (if applying to remove or injure a boundary tree or a tree you do not own)
  • Basic risk assessment form from a qualified tree professional 
  • Tree replacement plan (if removing regulated trees and you intend to plant new trees)

  1. Click on this link: Geopedia
  2. Type in your address in the address bar at the top of the screen. Scroll with your mouse to zoom in on the property.
  3. At the bottom of the page, there is a toolbar, click the icon that looks like a paint easel
  4. Click on the line/icon and change the colour to black. Use your mouse to create an X over the tree that you plan to remove
  5. Close the drawing window
  6. Right-click your mouse on the property and press print
  7. Save this as a PDF and send this map in with your application for a tree permit

An application is not considered complete until the Town of Fort Erie has received all of the documents required as well as the permit fees. Payment will be online and requested when you submit your application.

Once your application is screened and reviewed by staff, additional permit fees and/or security deposits may be required. This will be identified by staff with further directions on how to make the final payment prior to issuing your tree permit. For a list of fees and securities, please review our Fee Schedule.

Please note that a completed application is not a tree permit or guarantee that a tree permit will be issued.
