Residential property owners in Fort Erie may qualify for a rebate (available once per calendar year) for hiring a licensed pest control professional in Ontario to help address rodent problems on the exterior of their property only.
The rebate covers 50% of the total cost, up to a maximum of $200, for rodent pest control services specifically for the exterior of the property. Please note, the rebate does not apply to the purchase of pest control products from retail stores or any do-it-yourself pest control efforts.
Rodent Definition for the Purpose of the Program:
A rodent is defined as any gnawing mammal within an order that includes rats, mice, squirrels, hamsters, porcupines, beavers, and their relatives. These animals are characterized by strong, constantly growing incisors and the absence of canine teeth.
Follow the steps below to participate in the rebate program:

A property owner is to first file a complaint with the By-law Enforcement Department and a By-law Enforcement Officer is to attend the site to investigate the concern A Municipal Law Enforcement Officer will inspect the exterior yard for evidence of infestation. The Officer will provide the following: - Information and tips on how to prevent and control rodents. - How to access the online Residential Rodent Control Rebate Form. Any concerns with the property can be discussed directly with the Officer to rectify the deficiencies.
Note: You must be in compliance with all Town By-laws to qualify for this rebate program. |
Hire a Contractor and Complete the Application |
The homeowner is to arrange for a rodent control/extermination company to bait the exterior of their property Hire an Ontario licensed pest control company. Speak to the Contractor before the bill is prepared to ensure it contains all the necessary information. This must include the service address; the number of bait stations and/or traps placed on the exterior property; name of rodenticide/product used; possible cause/source of rodent problem. Note: Pest control services provided to the interior of the home are not eligible for the rebate. |
Submit Forms |
The homeowner is to then fill out the online Residential Rodent Control Rebate Form. A copy of the paid invoice must be uploaded as well to initiate the re-imbursement process. The submission can be made online to the following link, or in person at Fort Erie Town Hall 1 Municipal Centre Drive. |
Review |
Upon submission, Town Staff will review the application. Residents should allow for a minimum of 30 days for processing. If the application is approved, a cheque will be issued to the property owner at the address of service provided. If the application is denied, Town staff will follow up to provide further details. |
Terms and Conditions
In consideration of receiving the rebate under the Rodent Control Rebate Program, the applicant would acknowledge and agree that:
That the Corporation of the Town of Fort Erie is not responsible for the contractor selection or for the application or operation of the rodent control products or services used.
That to qualify for this rebate, the applicant must retain a contractor with a valid Ontario exterminator licence from the Ontario Ministry of Environment and Climate Change (MOECC) authorizing pesticide use according to the terms and conditions of the licence
That the Corporation of the Town of Fort Erie does not guarantee or warrant the pest control products or services used, the performance, freedom from defects, quality of workmanship or suitability of the products thereof for any purpose, or the suitability of the premises for application. Further, the Applicant acknowledges and agrees to assume all additional costs of the services performed or any ongoing rodent control services beyond the rebate amount
That the rebate program is not applicable to pest control services rendered to the interior of the building.
That there are no outstanding Property Standards or Lot Maintenance order(s) issued against the applicant property.
