Parking/Administrative Penalty Notices

Penalty Notices:

Parking Tickets and Non-parking AMPS tickets are called Penalty Notices. See the information below on paying penalty notices and how to dispute them. If you have further questions, please contact us at 905-871-1600.

Paying a Penalty Notice:

You can pay Penalty Notices in the following ways:

  • Online-Payments can be made online through our e-services.
  • By mail - Send a cheque or money order payable to the following address: 1 Municipal Centre Drive, Fort Erie, Ontario, L2A 2S6
  • Drop Off-Box - located at the Municipal Office.

Note:Do not send cash in the mail; please send payment by the due date.

Not Paid Notices:
Parking:

If no action is taken to pay a penalty notice it will result in default, and the Ministry of Transportation (Service Ontario) may deny your Ontario vehicle permit. In addition, renewal of existing or the issuance of new Ontario vehicle permits will be granted once payment is made, including all applicable fees.

Should you fail to pay your Penalty Notice or request an appeal with the Town's Screening Officer within 15 calendar days, some or all of the following administrative fees will be added to the Penalty Notice:

  • Ministry of Transportation Vehicle Licence Plate Record Search: $10.00
  • Late Payment Fee: $15.00
  • Ministry of Transportation Licence Plate Denial: $22.00

The Ministry of Transportation has administrative fees, which they may add to the Town's fees before releasing a licence plate.

Non-Parking AMPS:

If no action is taken to pay a penalty notice it will result in late payment fees. Collection will be taken in the same manner of Municipal Property Tax if the penalty notice is not paid.

Disputing a Penalty Notice:

A Screening Officer will review Penalty Notices. Changes to the dispute process are part of an Administrative Monetary Penalties System (AMPS).

Request a Screening:

Complete an online form through the Town of Fort Erie for A Screening Request.

You must request a review of your Penalty Notice (parking ticket or non-parking ticket) by a Screening Officer within 15 calendar days of being issued the penalty notice. The Screening process is to review and determine whether the infraction was committed.

The Request for Screening Form can only be submitted to the Town of Fort Erie online through e-services.

If you do not have internet access or cannot submit your request online, please call 905-871-1600, and someone can assist.

When filling out the online Request for Screening, please thoroughly describe why you believe the ticket is invalid and provide supporting documentation where possible. The Screening Officer will use the information you provide on the Request for Screening to determine the result. Town Staff will provide the Screening Officer's decision in writing.

The Screening Officer is a Town employee who has been appointed by Town Council and is bound by Conflict of Interest guidelines.

Disputing the Result of a Screening:

If you are not satisfied with the decision made by the Screening Officer. You can request a review by a Hearing Officer.

The request to meet with a Hearing Officer must be made within 15 calendar days of your Screening decision. The Hearing Officer is an independent third-party person who is appointed by Town Council and bound by Conflict of Interest guidelines and the Statutory Powers Procedure Act. The decision of the Hearing Officer is final.

You must fill out and submit the "Request for Hearing" form to request a Hearing. Please open it and save a copy of the form to your computer before completing it.
