Information for Third Party Advertisers

In an Ontario municipal election, a third-party advertiser is someone, a business, or a group that isn’t a candidate but still runs ads to support or oppose a candidate or question on the ballot. They need to register with the City Clerk’s office where they plan to advertise. They must follow rules about spending limits, where they can get funding, and disclose who is behind the ads.

For more details, the Province will release a 2026 Third Party Advertisers' Guide. In the meantime, check out the Province of Ontario's 2022 Third Party Advertisers' Guide

  •  Some information/dates may be incorrect / outdated until the final 2026 edition is released.
