Sports Hall of Fame

About Greater Fort Erie Sports Wall of Fame (GFESWF):

Do you know an individual, team or coach from Fort Erie who has achieved high success in their chosen sport? First, help us acknowledge their accomplishments! Then, you can nominate them for the Greater Fort Erie Sports Wall of Fame. We aim to recognize individuals and teams whose athletic abilities have brought fame to themselves and the Town of Fort Erie. A Committee will review nominations in January each year. In March the inductees are announced. The induction ceremony and dinner is held in June at the Leisureplex. Each inductee receives a plaque on the Wall of Fame at the main rink and a keeper plaque to take home.

GFESWF history:

The Greater Fort Erie Sports Wall of Fame (GFESWF) was established by the Town's Minor Hockey Association in 1980. A selection committee was established in the 1990s. Since 2006, this committee has overseen the GFESWF with help from the Kinsmen Club.

Nomination Criteria:

To be eligible for nomination, the team or individual must have achieved high success in their category. The current categories are:

• athlete
• team
• builder/official/coach.

The nominee is considered a credit to the Town of Fort Erie regarding achievement and character. The length of involvement can also be a factor in the decision-making process.

Nomination forms are available at the office in the Leisureplex. Supporting material, such as:

• newspaper articles
• photos
• letters of support,

should be included with the package and submitted as directed on the nomination form. Email nominations to recreation@forterie.ca.
