Let's Get GROWING Fort Erie!

2026 marks the launch of Fort Erie’s first Town‑led Community Gardens. This new initiative brings residents together to grow fruits, vegetables, herbs, and flowers on Town‑owned land, while creating welcoming spaces for learning, connection, and community pride.

These gardens support the community by:

  • Improving access to fresh, nutritious food
  • Encouraging physical activity and outdoor learning
  • Strengthening community connections
  • Supporting environmental stewardship and climate resilience
  • Creating welcoming and inclusive shared spaces

📍 400 Central Avenue: Located in green space beside the Railway Museum and Central Fire Station

This site was selected to ensure accessibility and visibility within the community.

The garden has been designed by Town staff to support safe, inclusive, and sustainable community use.

The Community Garden Program is a collaborative effort between the Town and local organizations.

The Town supports community gardens by:

  • Providing municipal land and garden infrastructure
  • Supplying soil, plants, and shared tools
  • Offering education and guidance for safe gardening practices
  • Supporting signage, promotion, and public awareness

Community partners are responsible for:

  • Recruiting and coordinating volunteers
  • Day‑to‑day garden maintenance and harvesting
  • Determining how produce is shared within the community
  • Creating a safe and welcoming space for participants

This approach ensures community gardens are locally led while remaining sustainable and well‑maintained.

Community gardens are made possible through the generous support of community partners and sponsors.

Support may include:

  • Donation of soil, plants, seeds, or gardening supplies
  • Tools or equipment for volunteer use
  • Financial contributions for garden features or improvements
  • Support for educational signage or community events

We gratefully recognize the businesses, organizations, and individuals who have contributed time, resources, or funding to help bring Fort Erie’s community gardens to life.

The Community Garden Program is proudly operated by local non‑profit and community groups who volunteer their time and leadership.

For the 2026 growing season, the Community Garden will be jointly managed by the Fort Erie Public Library and Community Outreach Program Erie (COPE). Together, these organizations bring a strong commitment to community connection, learning, and well‑being, ensuring the garden remains a supportive space for residents to grow food, share knowledge, and build community.

There are many ways to take part in Fort Erie’s Community Garden Program:

  • Volunteer with a participating organization
  • Support the program through sponsorship or donations
  • Attend community garden events
  • Learn more about becoming a community garden partner
